UUM SIGNS MOU WITH MYCC

UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur – As part of the ongoing effort to expose competition law to the public, the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium, yesterday.

The MoU was signed by the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COLGIS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fuad Othman, representing the Vice-Chancellor, while MyCC was represented by the Chairman, Dato' Seri Mohd Hishamuddin Md Yunus. The signing of the MoU was witnessed by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dato' Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that, the signing of the MoU will allow UUM to introduce competition law as a new topic in the syllabus of the courses offered at UUM and he believed that UUM has the ability to be an advocate to bring to light the minutiae of the competition law to the community, particularly the students.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fuad stated that, the MoU was signed with the intent to establish close cooperation in promoting the implementation of more effective competition law in Malaysia specifically for activities involving teaching and research in law.

A conference on The Challenges in Enforcing Competition Law in Malaysia and Possible Reform was held after the ceremony which saw the involvement of invited panels including Zairan Ishak from MyCC and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Liza Md Amin @ Fahmy from the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
