SAFIUDDIN IS SET TO REPRESENT MALAYSIA AT DEBATE COMPETITION

UUM ONLINE: Bachelor of Philosophy, Law and Business student, Mr. Ahmad Safiuddin Ibrahim, 22, is amongst the four students representing Malaysia in the Student Debate (Debat Siswa) which is expected to begin from 18 until 22 September, in Kuala Lumpur.

Safiuddin, a student of the UUM School of Law (SoL) said the debate which was aptly themed Asean Community for the Archipelago Category also involved students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM).

According to him, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) will work with Radio Television Brunei (RTB) to produce the Student Debate programme which will be broadcast live on RTM 2.

He said the objective of the programme was to highlight the ingenuity and skills of students in public speaking, establishing a network of cooperation between Institution of Higher Learning in Brunei and Malaysia and strengthening the cooperation between the two countries.

"Participants will undergo training and workshops on 18 September and will be interviewed on the Good Morning Malaysia (SPM) programme at RTM.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Malaysia and will do my best to bring up UUM's name," he said when met at the Vice-Chancellor's office yesterday.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani expressed his elation and congratulated Ahmad Safiuddin on his success.

"Although this is the first time for you, try your best by making the best possible preparation and I hope you will win.

Also present was Director of UUM Debate, Advocacy and Oratory Unit, Mr. Muhammad Hafiz Badarulzaman.
