BACHELOR OF LAW (HONOURS) [LL.B(HONS)]

INTRODUCTION

The main objective of the Bachelor of Laws programme is to produce professionally well-trained, excellent and competent legal personnel who are committed in the legal profession in line with the national aspiration.

The programme aims to provide a fundamental legal knowledge and understanding of the features of the legal system and law of Malaysia together with other related disciplines. The programme develops students’ intellectual, excellent verbal, written and interpresonal skills, to enable them to be flexible and open minds, to allow them to have the ability to think logically, critically and analytically, as well as to facilitate them with a creative approach of problem solving. Founded on the Eminent Management University’s theme, the programme is structured to include management courses making it special in its own way.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

 

STPM CANDIDATE

1. Passed with at least CGPA 3.00

2. SPM qualification with a minimum grade of C/6C in English Language and grade B/4B in History

3. MUET with Band 4 or MUET with Band 3 AND SPM qualification with a minimum grade of A- in English Language

 

SIJIL TINGGI AGAMA MALAYSIA (STAM)

1. Passed with at least Jayyid Jiddan Level

2. SPM qualification with a minimum grade of C/6C in English Language and grade B/4B in History

3. MUET with Band 4 or MUET with Band 3 AND SPM qualification with a minimum grade of A- in English Language

 

KPM MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION UM AND UITM CANDIDATE

1. Passed with at least CGPA 3.00

2. SPM qualification with a minimum grade of B in History

3. MUET with Band 4 or MUET with Band 3 AND SPM qualification with a minimum grade of A- in English Language

 

DIPLOMA (UA, POLITEKNIK, IPTS)

1. Possessed Diploma in Public Administration or Diploma in Law from UiTM or any other qualification recognized as equivalent by the 

    Malaysian Government and as thereby approved by the Universities Senate with at least CGPA 3.00

2. SPM qualification with a minimum grade of C/6C in English Language and grade B/4B in History

3. MUET with Band 4 or MUET with Band 3 AND SPM qualification with a minimum grade of A- in English Language

 

  • PROGRAMME AIMS

The aims of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) programme are to produce competent and distinguished law graduants in accordance with the national higher education aspirations as well as to meet the market demand.

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Acquire the practical knowledge and legal exposure in the public and private sectors.
  • Apply their legal knowledge in respects of the principles, concepts, theories and history (or raison d’être) to the law and the developmental evolution of the nation’s legal institutions.
  • Analyse critically and analytically, and evaluate legal problems and to prefer a correct and comprehensive solutions to the same.
  • Demonstrate basic skills in drafting legal documents and opinion, conducting negotiations, interviews and advising on possible solutions.
  • Communicate effectively, smart in decision making and adopt a good legal professional practice.
  • Competently and effectively adhering to the professional legal practice thus fulfilling the nation’s needs and aspirations.
  • Conduct the legal professional practice in an ethical manner.
  • Subscribing to lifelong learning in enhancing and auguring professionalism in the legal practice.
  • Produce leaders who are accountable in exercising management and possess entrepreneurial skills.

Professional Accreditation

Our law degree is recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia and obtained accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifying Agency.

Approach

Approaches in class include both traditional teaching methods and problem-based learning that focuses on student-centred or self-directed learning not only to encourage active participation but to provide students with real-life issues for their critical legal solutions.

Practical Training

Our programme involves both theoretical and practical trainings, inside and ouside classroom. Students are not only exposed to the curriculum activities such as field trips to Courts, involvement in moots, client counselling and debates, at national and international levels, but also get the opportunity to undergo practical trainings at courts, legal firms, legal aid centres, legal departments or other relevant corporate departments.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

There are a wide range of career opportunities available to law graduates. Generally a law degree prepares students for legal practice. At the same time, the degree offers an excellent foundation for many careers that covers both public and private sectors which include public service, business, academia, and community based legal organisations.

Graduates therefore could find themselves in legal careers as advocates and solicitors, magistrates or judges, registrars, or alternative dispute resolution providers, legal advisors or officers in banking and financial institutions, or in business as an in-house lawyer. In brief, a law degree that provides solid legal knowledge and advocacy skills can be applied by graduates to almost any occupation.
