UUM WINS SECOND AND THIRD PLACE IN THE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION (MANDARIN) 2020

UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) successfully clinched the second and third place in the UUM Public Speaking Tournament 2020 (Mandarin) held via Zoom and Facebook Live, recently.

Ms. Pee Yee Jean and Mr. Lim Jing Jie, both students of the UUM School of Law (SOL) were crowned winners of second and third place respectively in the competition. Meanwhile, Ms. Shelyn Poh from Taylor's University emerged as champion of the competition.

The first-runner up, Ms. Pee Yee Jean expressed her gratitude for being able to learn a lot from the dedicated and professional jury.

"This online competition is indeed a new experience and on this occasion I would like to thank the organizers, family members and friends who have given me the much needed support.

"The advice and guidance I received from the jury will definitely be used to improve my weaknesses and ensure my victories in the future," she said.
On a similar note was Mr. Lim Jing Jie who won third place in the competition.

"I picked up a lot of knowledge from this online activity and the experience was indeed very meaningful. I hope to maintain momentum and work harder in the future," he said.

Manager of the UUM Debate, Advocacy and Oratory Unit, Mr. Muhammad Hafiz Badarulzaman said, the national level competition under the theme, Speakuencer: An Ancient Vow, was the third time it was organized and this time, it was held online for the first time. The competition attracted a total of 28 participants from the seven public and private institutions of higher education in the country.

He congratulated the winners and organizers who worked hard to make the competition a success.

He said more of such competitions should be held and the competition should centre stage more segments in order to produce competent, skilled and knowledgeable public speakers.

‘UUM Public Speaking Tournament 2020’ is the first Virtual Mandarin Public Speaking Competition organized by UUM through the Public Speaking Club in collaboration with the Debate, Advocacy and Oratory Unit (UDAO), Centre of Excellence and Student Leadership (SELECT), Department of Student Affairs.

The competition was judged by a panel of celebrity jury from the Mandarin television channel.
